Dear reader,
Today I am a guest on my favorite podcast Off The Grid with
talking all things Instagram addiction, the waves of the internet, community, and more.I draw parallels between my drinking habits and social media habits, dig into how it felt to go back on after quitting, and how important the art of the newsletter is.
Feeling the urgency of the moment without having to rush, without having to find the perfect infographic, why I went back on after I said I would quit, and this is the conversation that brought me to leave again.
I talk about the power of sharing information on social media that we can’t commonly find in other places, and that maybe that isn’t my role in the web. How helpful it is in mutual aid, neighbor connections, the power of the DM, etc.
The less I’m on there the more my capacity strengthens to hold it all.
The hook of being single in the woods and wondering what everyone is up to. The window that social media gives us into who a person is.
This conversation is really important to me and beautiful and Amelia’s podcast, the guests she has on, and the ripples she makes with the conversations she hosts is truly powerful and impactful to me.
Amelia asked me what I am orienting to in my practice and everything in my body said I was turning toward other things, none of it included Instagram. And saying out loud - I don’t feel good there is what sparked my exit.
We also talk about platform jumping and the problem of metrics affecting our creativity and mental health. The blessing of having a job as a writer, a teacher, and what I miss about not being on a platform. The differences between a newsletter vs email marketing and where it can get confusing.
