I just want to say that I was able to build an online class that worked for me and felt right thanks to The World Needs Your Online Class, and as I'm gathering info and getting ready for launching another class, I'm very excited to take this new version of it.

I often recoil at being called a "teacher" even though "teaching" is a big part of how I cobble together my writing life. I'm in classrooms roiling with rambunctious reservation kids, I teach a storytelling course at the U of M, teach in-person and online writing workshops, etc., yet whenever I'm introduced as a "teacher" I'm all, "Whoa, there, let's not get crazy here...." So it's incredibly serendipitous that you write this piece, Marlee, because I spent a big chunk of the weekend reflecting on the distinction – what the big picture meaning of "teacher" really is to those of us engaged in it, especially non-traditionally – based on the stuff I found myself in the middle of over the last two weeks. Enough so that I actually registered for the big National Indian Education Association's big conference in Albuquerque this fall. I really didn't even think about it: it hit my radar, I have the money, so I did it. We'll see what happens. Your message here really solidifies my intuition that I did the right thing, so miigwech, thank you, for this.
