This was a beautiful essay Mar. I think us humans think knowledge = safety and self-importance, and it is hard for us to let that go.

Often if I write about some opinion I have with real fervor, then send it out into the world, the writing of it makes me immediately question it— which is so uncomfortable (and healthy I think).

Loved Holly's paywall post about removing it... found it so interesting and loved the detail/transparency. Love how it appears to be lots of different people writing on here trying new things and also making sure we feel psychologically free too 😅xoxox

What a hoax, indeed! 🫠😂 I was in your class yesterday and had to take myself on a second walk along the beach to quell/untangle my feelings of "f*ck! I know so much less now than when I started!" Your Writing the Personal is the last class in a months-long marathon of courses to inspire/conjure returning to my substack after surrendering to an emotional/mental breakdown last spring. These feelings are why I kinda hate the chrysalis/butterfly transformation metaphor... I feel like goo still, but inspired goo that has been challenged to view her writing practice and shared words in a new light. Thanks for that! 💛✨️

"I was flattened. A pancake of not knowing. A flapjack of nothingness."

I'm here for any and all breakfast metaphors, and this was divine.

The paywall experiment is an interesting one. I read Holly's post last week and loved how it made me feel - the freedom to focus on our creativity and faith in humanity that people will still pay and value our work. I have another job that pays my bills, but I’ve been loving the freedom of writing for the pure pleasure of writing. That said, I fully support your experiment and reasons to go with a total paywall. I am looking forward to reading about your analysis at the end. Thank you for the super sale, Marlee. I bought your classes yesterday! I'm excited to indulge in them.
