Finding inspiration in the ordinary day
Remaining disciplined without external deadlines, the energetic drain of "hat switching", and finding inspiration beyond the phone
Welcome to another installment of the Yes Yes advice column. You can find the audio version at the bottom of this email. It is spring time in the north and a wild 76 degrees, the buds are coming out on the honeysuckles, June is basking in the sun, and knowing it will be in the 30’s again next week is the great reminder that even great nature has its spirals of ups and downs.
Today’s advice comes from a question I read in a survey I sent out to all my past students asking them what they would want to hear on a future podcast. (Hint, I am working on a very cool new podcast that comes out in May)
☁️ Question : How do you deal with the energetic drain of "hat switching"? How do you remain disciplined when you don't have external deadlines? How do you find inspiration?
Last year when I was picking out my vanity plate I almost got the plate HATGUY. As a boy who is almost always wearing a baseball cap, as a guy who has many jobs all rolled into one, it seemed quite fitting. I instead went with SHAPES because I love to be a shape maker, a shape shifter, a researcher of the shapes we make.
🍋 Hint : I find accepting the hat switching doesn’t drain me, it gives me life! Its all about noticing the mundane gifts wrapped into each modality
Before I begin I want to share two loving reminders that could support you in the coming weeks of your practice.
🔹 The Creative Ideation Portal : a free three day email guide to vision your projects and bring them into the light of day
🔹 Flexible Office : an experimental digital co-working space that meets twice a week for two hours begins Monday April 17 with a visioning session
Ok lets dive in!
A portion of April’s paid subscriptions goes towards the Social Justice Sewing Academy
